Mufflers

Outside of the engine, the exhaust system and muffler are essential parts of your vehicle. Their purpose is to transport gases out of the engine and away from you and your occupants during the combustion process. When this system fails or has issues it can become immediately apparent. If you suspect that your exhaust system or muffler might be malfunctioning, bring your vehicle to Docteur Silencieux Laval for repair and inspection.

Muffler and Exhaust Service

In classic comedy, loud mufflers and slow exhaust pipes are gold, but in reality, a damaged exhaust system is no laughing matter. Exhaust parts that are broken or leaky can affect engine performance, increase emissions, and permit toxic gases to enter the interior of a vehicle undetected.

Docteur Silencieux Laval takes care of all the parts of the vehicle’s exhaust system:

  • Exhaust valve and piston: engine parts that divert exhaust gases from the combustion chamber (where they are produced) to the exhaust manifold
  • Exhaust manifold: the journey from the piston to the catalytic converter. There will be one or more oxygen sensors in or near this area.
  • Catalyst: converts some toxins into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water, which generates cleaner emissions, although exhaust gases are still toxic in a small space (and CO2 is a greenhouse gas). There may be additional oxygen sensors behind the catalytic converter to monitor its performance.
  • Exhaust pipe: brings the cleanest exhaust gases to the muffler
  • Muffler: reduces noise during combustion and when exhaust gases are emitted
  • Exhaust pipe: where the exhaust leaves the vehicle.
